The Intellectual Legacy of the Ulama of the Archipelago and Its Relevance to the Institutionalization of Islamic Civilization in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam

Kajian ini berupaya mengungkap kesinambungan epistemik antara ulama Nusantara dan institusi keagamaan Brunei Darussalam dalam membentuk tamadun Islam di Asia Tenggara. Hubungan keilmuan lintas batas ini penting dikaji karena sebagian besar penelitian sebelumnya lebih banyak berfokus pada kontribusi ulama Nusantara terhadap perkembangan Islam di wilayah Indonesia dan Tanah Haramain, sementara peran dan pengaruhnya terhadap dinamika keislaman di Brunei Darussalam masih jarang mendapat perhatian ilmiah yang memadai. Penelitian ini menganalisis karya dan pemikiran tiga ulama besar Nusantara—Syekh Nawawi al-Bantani, Syekh Mahfudz at-Tarmasi, dan Syekh Ahmad Khatib al-Minangkabawi—serta mengaitkannya dengan kontribusi institusional ulama Brunei, khususnya Mufti Kerajaan Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, dalam mengembangkan sistem nilai Islam melalui falsafah Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB). Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis isi terhadap karya klasik, publikasi ilmiah, serta dokumen kelembagaan, kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa tamadun Islam di Indonesia dan Brunei merupakan hasil kesinambungan sanad keilmuan yang berakar pada tradisi adab, ilmu, dan wasathiyyah. Warisan intelektual ulama Nusantara tidak hanya membentuk basis epistemologis Islam di Nusantara, tetapi juga menjadi jembatan transnasional. Warisan keilmuan para ulama tersebut menjadi fondasi utama bagi integrasi keilmuan dan spiritualitas dalam peradaban Islam Asia Tenggara. Temuan ini memperkuat pemahaman bahwa kesinambungan jaringan ulama Nusantara dan Brunei merupakan bentuk aktualisasi tamadun Islam yang berakar pada tradisi ilmiah, moralitas, dan pembaruan.
