Abstract

The Sundanese phrase "beja mah beja" is a legacy of ancestral wisdom that emphasizes a critical and cautious attitude in receiving information. This phrase philosophically reminds people not to easily believe every circulating news before verifying its truth. In the context of the rampant hoaxes that are developing in Indonesian society today, this phrase has very high relevance. In the Sundanese treasure, empowering the community against false, incorrect information, or in the current context called hoaxes, ancestors bequeathed the wise phrase, namely "beja mah beja." This study aims to implement "beja mah beja" as a traditional literacy instrument. This study uses a qualitative approach, with a literature study method (library study). The results, the relevance of beja mah beja in the current era is very large amid the rise of hoaxes in the digital era. Beja mah beja is a form of Sundanese ancestral intelligence in dealing with the flow of information. Through the phrase beja mah beja, Sundanese ancestors bequeathed an information filtering system and taught it to society from the past to the present era.
